Since about the age of 9 I had a fascination with cameras. I would always take my parents left over disposable cameras and take pictures from my bedroom window. This is where my love for landscapes was born (Who knows where those pictures are). The different shapes and lines, shadows and reflections, colors and hues always peaked my interest. It wasn’t until college that I finally owned a camera of my own. A Kodak Easyshare point and shoot from my sis! A few years later I was able to upgrade to a Nikon P90 and then onto a DSLR. Life hasn’t been the same since. Since then I have became a photographing maniac. Shooting anything from the keys on my dresser to live events and my new found love, portraits!
My love for portraits was born in Battery Park while doing a photo walk with my friend Cassie through the Financial district of Manhattan, NY. It was then that I realized the power of a portrait and the power an image possessed. Being able to capture an image of someone and document their emotion, look, style, and utter existence in a moment of time all with the push of a button.
Time is the one thing in life you can never get back but with a photo you can hold on to that moment. You can capture a moment that would otherwise be forever lost and forgotten. With an image you can awaken memories, move the masses and evoke emotion that even words can’t describe. They say a pen is mightier than the sword but what about a camera? Images can tell a story in every language on earth and to me there is no greater power. (Even cavemen knew this way back when). Without an image we cannot imagine.
